The C. S. Bell #32 church bell shown below has an interesting history. It was cast and installed in the Methodist Church in Brookville Pa. in the 1890’s. The church was closed and became community property in 1972. In recent years the church steeple appeared to be falling in and needed repaired.
Public opinion was the the bell had been removed years ago. A local resident believed it was still there and was granted the bell if it was still there and he could get it out.
Here it is in the first photo where he found it. It had fallen from it’s perch about 30 feet and rested against the lower level of the church roof. It was a miracle that nothing on the bell broke in the fall. The clapper was bent and the yoke shifted but other than that is was in good shape. Repairs were made and it is ringing away once again.
