Three C. S. Bell World War II era marine bells cast from the original C. S. Bell patterns are now available for purchase at The Highland House Museum.
These bells were cleaned up, checked over, and donated to the Historical Society as a fundraiser for a mural project in the Hillsboro Historic District.
The first bell available for purchase is this C. S. Bell DG6 Marine Bell. It’s two principal uses were deck bell on multi level vessels, or a fog bell on smaller vessels. DG stands for Deck Grade. 6 designates the size, in inches, of the bell’s rim.
This bell is located at The Highland House Museum and may be purchased for $175. 10% off for HCHS members.

The second bell donated, refurbished and available for purchase is this
MB 62 Marine Bell, known as
The Captains Bell.
The Captains Bell is 10” in diameter, weighs in at 17 pounds fully assembled and is made to be mobile. The hanger is made in two parts so the bell could follow the Captain, on occasion, to ceremonies and other official functions. A second MB62 wall bracket base is included for easy relocation of the captains bell.
This Captains Bell is available for purchase for $475. 10% discount to HCHS members.
The third bell donated, refurbished and available for purchase is the infamous C. S. Bell D Day Invasion Bell. Cast from the original patterns in the 1970s by C. S. Bell Company workers in Hillsboro, Ohio. It is complete and original.
C S Bell workers cast thousands of bells for the allied forces during World War II. The best known of all is the invasion bell. Each of the 4,116 landing craft that that hit the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944 used a C. S. Bell Invasion Bell to call out signals among the landing craft.
